Today 25th November 2020,  University of Kabianga through the Directorate of Gender and Development joins the rest of the world in marking 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, this year’s global theme : "Orange the World: Fund, Respond, Prevent, Collect!"

The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is an annual international campaign that kicks off on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and runs until 10 December, Human Rights Day.

It was started by activists at the inaugural Women’s Global Leadership Institute in 1991 and continues to be coordinated each year by the Center for Women’s Global Leadership. It is used as an organizing strategy by individuals and organizations around the world to call for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls.

This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have seen reports of rising cases of gender based violence in homes due to lockdown situations world-wide. As a University community we are not exempt from such situations, therefore we take action by advocating against gender based violence. We embark on a social media campaign to reach our students and staff on informative messages to alleviate gender based violence. Our facebook page "UoK Directorate of Gender and Development" will capture all the 16 days activities.
