Lester Mwetu a postgraduate student at University of Kabianga, undertaking a Master of Arts Degree in Literature attended the African Literature Association Conference between 14th and 17th of June, 2017, at Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut, USA. He presented a paper on: Struggling Gender: Women and Politics in Kenya.

The Conference attended by scholars from Canada, German, Britain, France, Ghana, Nigeria, Uganda and the United States of America also had presentations including:

  1. African Literature in the World: Imagining a Post-Colonial Public Shere by Prof Simon Gikandi,
  2. Behold the Dreamers by Imbolo Mbue from Cameroom
  3. Rereading Things Fall Apart’s Okonkwo in the Age of Trump by Christopher Okonkwo and;
  4. Kenya: Twendapi? (1968; Kenya: where are we heading?), by Kai Kresse of Columbia University

Lester has presented in other conferences and published an article on: “Immigration as a Mirage: Disillusionment and Immigrant Experiences in Sefi Atta’s ‘Twilight Trek’ ”, Research Journal of English Language and Literature, 4(3), 406-409.

In addition to presenting a paper, Lester was appointed Member-at-large of the Graduate Students Caucus of African Literature Association (GSCALA). This requires suggesting events to be prioritized for the GSCALA meetings during the African Literature Association 44th Annual Conference next year in Washington, D.C.

This is not just an honour to Lester but also to the University of Kabianga.
