Three UoK students; Ms.Gabriela Chepng’eno (Vice Chairperson of the 6th Students Governing Council), Mr. Dennis Chirchir (Secretary for Academics 6th SGC) and Ms.Deborah Chelangat (Chairperson UOK Gender Club) were privileged to attend a Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Fellowship Programme themed: “agenda 2030”. 

The (SDGs) Kenya forum is a voluntary membership coalition of organizations that champion for the implementation of the SDGs in the Country. Membership is drawn from local civil society, private sector, academia and international NGOs with operations in Kenya.

The fellowship theme was focused on achievement of Kenya Agenda 2030 through the SDGs. It encompassed 17 participants from the East Africa region who were selected through a rigorous and competitive interview following an online application. The participants were 17 champions for the 17 goals of sustainable development. The Secretary for Academics 6th SGC Dennis Chirchir was selected as one of the participants and represented the University of Kabianga and North Rift region of Kenya as a champion of goal number 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure. These champions would thereafter train other 17 champions from their respective regions.

The Vice Chairperson of the 6th Students Governing Council Ms. Gabriela Chepng’eno a member of International Christian Youth work (ICY) was appointed as a youth leader to implement the SDGs as a youth member.  She attended a virtual forum on Saturday 19th June 2021 for capacity building on leadership, participation in community programmes, conservation of the environment, advocating for youth on gender issues, communication and job creation.

Ms.Deborah Chelangat, Chairperson UOK Gender Club and member of International Christian Youth work (ICY) was appointed as a youth leader to implement the SDGs as a youth member.  She attended a virtual forum on Saturday 19th June 2021 for capacity building on leadership, participation in community programmes, conservation of the environment, advocating for youth on gender issues, communication and job creation.

The programme emphasizes critical thinking oral, written, graphic and digital communication; utilization of media and information technology.
