Retired President Mwai Kibaki appointed Professor Musangi the Chancellor of University of Kabianga on March 1st 2013.Prof Musangi is a renowned educationist and a scholar as well as an accomplished Administrator. He was born in April 24th,1934 at Milo, in Bungoma County although he is now a resident of Trans Nzoia County. For his Lower and Upper Primary level education he attended Schools in Bungoma and Kakamega counties respectively.Later,he attended Kakamega Secondary between 1950 and 1956 where he did his Cambridge School Examination and attained Division I.

After his secondary education he proceeded to Makerere University in Uganda,where he studied between 1957 -1962.He attained London Preliminary Science Certificate, in 1959 and thereafter,a B.Sc(Agriculture),london in 1962. From there he joined Wye College, London (now Imperial University, London),where he attained an M.Sc,(Agriculture) in 1964 and a Ph.D in 1967.

His leadership potential was identified while at Secondary School where he served as the school captain in 1956.Upon Completion of his studies he held various positions in East African Universities. He taught at Makerere between 1964 and 1969.He then joined University of Nairobi in 1970 where he rose through ranks to the position of Deputy Vice-Chancellor in 1979, a position he held upto 1981. In 1981, he moved to then Egerton College, later to be Egerton University where he held the position of a Principal upto 1987 and became the pioneer Vice - Chancellor of Egerton University in 1987, a position he held until April,1992.

He has served in various Boards and Committees both locally and internationally. He was a panelist in FAO between 1967 and 1969. Between 1982 and 1986, he was Chair of the Kenya National Examinations Council. He was a member and later a Board Chair of the Consulative Group on International Agricultural Research of the World Bank between 1961 and 1997.Between 1993 and 1996, he was Chairman, Maseno University College Council. Bewteen May,2010 and March 2013 he was both a member and Board Chair of Kenya Forest Service.

Prof. Musangi has done extensive research and made over 50 publications in the area of animal Science and Agricultural Education. He has also published several text books for Colleges and Schools

As an accomplished farmer in Trans Nzoia County Prof. Musangi has indeed been true to his calling, an Agriculturalist.

For recreation, Prof. Musangi enjoys a game of Golf.
