Dedan Kimathi Foundation Donates 1,000 Bamboo Seedlings to University of Kabianga
On 24th September 2025, the University of Kabianga had the honor of hosting the Dedan Kimathi Foundation team, led by Ms. Evelyn Kimathi, who visited the institution as part of the commemoration of World Bamboo Day, celebrated earlier on 18th September 2025 at the University Pavilion.
During the visit, the Foundation made a generous donation of 1,000 bamboo seedlings to the University, reinforcing its commitment to environmental conservation and sustainability.
The University leadership warmly received the team. In attendance were the Deputy Vice-Chancellors; Prof. Maurice Oduor, Prof. Paul Onsare and Prof. Isaac Naibei, who at the time was serving as Acting Vice-Chancellor, representing Prof. Eric Koech who was away on official duties. Also present were Prof. Peter Sirma, Dean of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, and Dr. Kere Mbira, a lecturer at the School of Agriculture.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Eric Koech, conveyed his heartfelt appreciation on behalf of University Council and Management to the Foundation via phone call, recognizing their invaluable support in advancing environmental conservation through tree planting. The Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Naibei, emphasized the importance of planting more trees as a critical step toward sustainable environmental stewardship.
The event also drew the participation of the Dean of Students, Dr. Ngugi, alongside the Students’ Governing Council President, Mr. Allan Kipkoech, who both expressed gratitude to the Dedan Kimathi Foundation for their generous contribution.
As part of their visit, the Foundation team toured the University of Kabianga Pineapple and Water Processing Plant, where they learned more about the University’s innovative products and value addition initiatives.
