Dr. Thomas Juma’s Generous Book Donation Worth 200 USD to the University
The University of Kabianga has gratefully received a donation of academic books valued at USD 200 from Dr. Thomas Juma. The books were purchased during his recent academic visit to South Africa, demonstrating his enduring commitment to enhancing the university’s research and learning resources.
Dr. Thomas Juma was honored as Researcher of the Year at the 2024 graduation ceremony. His dedication to scholarship and academic excellence continues to inspire the University community.
Beyond his scholarly achievements, Dr. Thomas Juma serves as the Chair of the University of Kabianga’s Peace Committee. Under his leadership the university recently introduced a short course on peace; a testament to his commitment to nurturing a culture of harmony and conflict resolution among students and staff.
Recently Dr. Juma played an active role in a peace mission at Sondu. A border town lying between Kericho County and Kisumu County and lies close to the border of Homa Bay County and Nyamira County through the surrounding border-area geography.
The borders in that region have historically been a source of tension between communities, occasionally giving rise to disputes and conflict. Through the peace mission, Dr. Juma helped engage local leaders and communities with the aim of promoting dialogue, reconciliation and long-term peaceful coexistence.
The presentation of the donated books at University of Kabianga was witnessed by senior university leadership: Prof. Eric Koech (Ph.D, MBS) - Vice Chancellor, Prof. Maurice Odour - Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Planning, Research and Development, Prof. Phanice Wangila - Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs and Diana Spencer - representing the University Librarian.
The University of Kabianga expresses profound appreciation for Dr. Thomas Juma’s dual contribution through enriching academic resources and advancing peace efforts which aligns with its mission to foster both scholarly excellence and social responsibility.
Dr. Thomas Juma’s book donation and ongoing peace-work embody a powerful example of how academics can influence both educational quality and community harmony.
