Tracing Roots

Mr. Peter Hansen from Australia made his way to University of Kabianga today Tuesday 19th March, 2024 in his ambitious endeavor to trace where he grew up when he was young.

Peter said that until the time they left Kenya in 1963, he remembers that his father was working and operating at a place where there was some training in dairy farming and how to grow corn. This picture locates the institution of training to the current University of Kabianga - which was a then renowned Farmers Training Centre (FTC). It was here that best training and practices on modern agriculture was offered and trainees from all over the country would find it prestigious to learn at Kabianga.

It was in those years that the FTC administration and tutors were white people; hence; Hansen's father was inevitably one of the tutors.

University's Vice-Chancellor; Prof. Eric Koech flanked by Prof. Maurice Odour (Deputy Vice-Chancellor in Charge of Planning and Research and Development, Dr. Mary Wosyanju; Dean of Students) welcomed Peter Hansen who was accompanied by his wife Mrs. Jill Hansen and their children.

Prof. Koech said that Hansen's idea to trace where he grew when he was young is something remarkable and this would foster new ideas on what he and the University can partner to do towards the prosperity of the institution. On his part, Hansen was grateful for the welcome in a place he grew up and although the years have taken a toll of his memory he was still able to trace it.
