The 11th SGC Inauguration
The University of Kabianga(UoK) marked a significant milestone with the official inauguration of the 11th Student Governing Council (SGC) for the 2026/2027 academic year. Held on Friday 17th April, 2026 at the University Pavilion, the ceremony was attended by members of the University Management, staff and students. In a display of democratic transition, the outgoing 10th SGC formally handed over the mantle to the incoming team. The Vice-Chancellor Prof. Eric Koech(PhD; MBS) commended the peaceful transition as a testament to the university’s compliance with the Universities Amendment Act of 2016 and its own internal statutes.
The new SGC Team was officially sworn in by the University Legal Officer Ms. Robai Ayuma. It includes Mr. Silas Kipkorir Too (Chairperson), Ms. Floridah Chepkirui (Vice-Chairperson), Mr. Rono Kiprotich Weldon (Secretary General), Mr. Kiprotich Dennis (Secretary Academics), Mr. Ondah Mark Donald (Secretary Sports and Entertainment), Mr. Omondi Okoth Felix (Secretary Finance) and Ms. Akinyi Lilian Jagongo (Secretary Security, Health and Accommodation).
During the inauguration, Prof. Koech urged the new leaders to prioritize dialogue and transparency over activism, encouraging them to work closely with the Dean of Students to serve their fellow "comrades" in a realistic and responsible manner.
To support the SGC's vision, the University Management committed to several key infrastructure projects aimed at improving student welfare. These include upgrading sports fields to foster talent, initiating the construction of a multipurpose hall and installing a perimeter fence to enhance campus security. Additionally, the university plans to improve internal mobility by developing pavements and culverts to address drainage and flooding issues. The partnership between management and the 11th SGC sets a collaborative tone for the year ahead, focusing on innovation and excellence for the entire university community.
Congratulations to the UoK 11th SGC Team!
