Kenya Power Officials Pay Courtesy Visit to University of Kabianga, to Discuss Dedicated Power Line

In a bid to strengthen collaboration and address persistent power-related challenges, officials from Kenya Power paid a courtesy call to the University of Kabianga on 28th August 2025. The delegation was led by Mr. Cyrus Kanda, Head of Operations for Kericho County, accompanied by Mr. Langat, the Operations Officer for Belgut Sub-County.

The team was warmly received by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Eric Koech who was joined by the Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Administration and Finance, Prof. Isaac Naibei. Also present during the engagement was the University's electrician, Mr. Kipyegon Ngeno and Senior Registrar Administration Mr. Richard Cheruiyot.

During the meeting, the two parties held fruitful discussions focusing on how to enhance the reliability of power supply to the institution. A key highlight of the deliberations was the proposal to establish a dedicated power line to the university, a move aimed at curbing frequent power outages that have disrupted academic and administrative operations in the past.

Mr. Kanda acknowledged the critical role the university plays in the region and reaffirmed Kenya Power's commitment to supporting educational institutions with stable and sufficient electricity. He emphasized that the proposed dedicated line would significantly reduce interruptions and ensure the university operates efficiently without the burden of unpredictable blackouts.

Prof. Naibei expressed appreciation for Kenya Power's proactive approach, noting that a stable power supply is crucial for research, online learning and the overall development agenda of the university. Mr. Ngeno and Mr. Cheruiyot also echoed the need for a dedicated line, citing technical difficulties experienced due to shared infrastructure with surrounding areas.

The visit marks a positive step toward long-term solutions and stronger partnership between Kenya Power and the University of Kabianga. Both parties expressed optimism about the outcomes of the discussions and pledged continued cooperation in ensuring reliable service delivery.
