KURA Officials Visit University of Kabianga to Begin Plans for Internal Access Roads and Pedestrian Pathways

On 20th December 2025, the University of Kabianga hosted a high-level delegation from the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) as part of ongoing efforts to enhance the institution’s internal road network and improve pedestrian safety along the University–Kabianga–Chepnyogaa route.

The visit follows the University’s formal request to KURA for support in the construction of internal access roads, pedestrian walkways, deceleration and acceleration lanes and improved mobility links within and around the institution.

The officials were warmly received by Prof. Maurice Oduor the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Isaac Naibei the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration and Finance) and Mr. Geoffrey Tonui the University’s Quantity Surveyor.

Speaking during the visit the University leadership expressed gratitude to KURA for responding to the institution’s infrastructure needs and reaffirmed their commitment to working collaboratively to improve mobility, safety and accessibility for students, staff and visitors.

The KURA team conducted an extensive survey of internal roads, pedestrian access points and key entry routes with special emphasis on:

  • Upgrading internal circulation roads
  • Developing pedestrian pathways
  • Enhancing deceleration and acceleration lanes along university access points
  • Improving overall flow of traffic within the university
  • Addressing safety concerns for road users, particularly pedestrians

During the briefing the visiting officials assured the University management of KURA’s full support and pledged to partner with the institution to implement the proposed access road improvements. They highlighted the importance of the University’s request and emphasized KURA’s commitment to ensuring safer and more efficient road infrastructure in learning institutions.

Prof. Oduor thanked the officials for prioritizing the University’s needs and noted that improved access roads and walkways will significantly benefit the University community and enhance service delivery across departments.

The site survey marks the first key step in the implementation process with detailed technical assessments set to inform the next phases of construction and resource mobilization.

The University of Kabianga remains committed to strengthening partnerships that foster growth, safety and development and looks forward to continued collaboration with KURA to transform its road infrastructure for the benefit of current and future generations.
