UoK Partners with NYOTA Project to Graduate Lot 1 Cohort 2 Trainees at Sotik Resource Centre
The National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) Project reached a significant milestone on Friday March 27th, 2026, as the University of Kabianga (UoK) Sotik Resource Centre hosted the graduation of the Lot 1 Cohort 2 trainees. These graduates successfully completed a 20-day intensive Socio-Emotional Skills Development (SESD) training, a core pillar of the World Bank-supported initiative designed to equip youth aged 18–29 with the resilience and business ethics needed for self-reliance. Representing Vice-Chancellor Prof. Eric Koech(PhD; MBS), Dr. Patricia Chepkwony in charge of the Marketing Department delivered a message of congratulations to the graduands, reaffirming the University’s commitment to the national youth agenda and its role as a hub for entrepreneurship in Kenya.
Beyond the classroom, the NYOTA programme provides a comprehensive support system, including a KSh 50,000 start-up grant, technical apprenticeships and automatic enrolment in the NSSF Haba Haba savings scheme with an initial government deposit. By providing a platform for this training, the University of Kabianga is actively bridging the gap between informal skills and formal certification through the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) framework. Dr. Chepkwony further encouraged the graduates to pursue the NYOTA fund opportunities marking the transition from trainees to empowered entrepreneurs ready to drive the local economy.
