University of Kabianga Don Successfully Completes Prestigious IUCEA Staff Mobility Programme
Dr. David Ngatia, a lecturer in the School of Education, Arts & Social Sciences, Department of Curriculum, Instruction & Educational Media, was competitively selected to participate in the Inter-University Council for East Africa (IUCEA) Staff Mobility Programme. This prestigious programme recognized Dr. Ngatia’s exceptional academic contributions and his commitment to fostering regional collaboration in higher education.
Dr. Ngatia began the programme on 13th January 2025 at Kigali Independent University in Rwanda. Over the course of his four-month tenure, which concluded on 13th May 2025, he actively engaged in teaching, research, and knowledge exchange. His participation significantly advanced the mission of enhancing the quality of education across the East African region.
This milestone reflected the University of Kabianga’s strong commitment to supporting faculty members in expanding their academic horizons and contributing to regional integration efforts. His involvement in the programme also demonstrated the University's role in promoting inter-institutional partnerships and academic excellence. During his stay, Dr. Ngatia also played a pivotal role in initiating and facilitating the establishment of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Kigali Independent University and the University of Kabianga. Signed on 7th May 2025, this MoU formalized a framework for collaborative activities in research, teaching, staff and student exchange, and joint academic programmes. Dr. Ngatia’s efforts in fostering this institutional partnership underscored his dedication to building sustainable academic networks that will benefit both universities and contribute to the broader goals of regional academic integration.
IUCEA, an institution of the East African Community (EAC), aims to promote the strategic and sustainable development of higher education systems and research in support of East Africa’s socio-economic development and regional integration. Participants in the staff mobility programme are expected to contribute to university functions including teaching, research, community engagement, and/or external examination at host universities outside their home countries.
As a seasoned educator and researcher, Dr. Ngatia brought extensive expertise in Science Education, Teaching Pedagogies, Inclusive Education, and Educational Technology. His contributions benefited Kigali Independent University and fostered strong inter-institutional collaborations that enriched the broader educational landscape of the East African region.
Dr. Ngatia’s selection for this competitive programme stood as a testament to his unwavering dedication to academic excellence and his passion for impactful teaching and research.
